Well I picked up my first firearm about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to start with something that would be fairly inexpensive to shoot, but also something I liked and felt good in my hand. I ended up going with a Walther P-22 and I'm going to the range to shoot it for the first time tomorrow. I included a picture of the fun below and will bring back some more pictures for everyone to check out tomorrow.

Did you get the pure black or did you get the OD one? If its the OD, Im so jelous, all they had in my area is the black one. Also good pick I just got one a few weeks ago, and I love it. Never had a jam yet, and I've put at least 3 bricks of .22s through it.
Also if your looking for a fun rifle for plinking get the Ruger 10/22. You will love it.

Mine looks just like the one in the picture, OD with a black slide, it's awesome. It was also the last OD one they had.

Lucky, I love the way the OD looks, did you pick up any extended mags with it? Also If you have the money, getting the 6" barrel kit is well worth it.

Walther makes good guns. You'll be happy with your purchase. Congrats!

Report from the range:
All in all a good day, put some rounds through it, and I did have a few jams, but my guess is those were due to the fact that it probably needs some cleaning and a bit of lube. Nothing that will really bother me too much. Now it's just a matter of getting used to shooting it, but from what I have shot, I already love it.

Great piece, Soccermark and the right caliber to start out with. I have this feeling it won't be your last one. Get to know her, get to undressing her and keeping her clean. Safe shooting! Do stop and come join us at the NRA!

You have made a typical newbie mistake. Did you even think about this purchase? Walther had always made the finest of firearms so what can you blame it on if you miss?
It is much better to buy some kind of cheap junk that you can blame for any misses but take complete credit for the hits.

I don't know about you buddy but I don't need to blame my mistakes on anybody but myself, I take full credit for anything and everything I do. I know I'm not going to be a crack shot right off the bat because my previous shooting experience involves the M-16A2.

Everyone is going to expect high scores from a nice gun like that. Now you have no choice but to practice until you become very good with it. That is the hard way.
If it had been a chinese something or other then nobody would expect any accuracy at all and any high scores would be gravy.
It is the same with any other sporting equipment. Don't buy the good stuff.

Oh Jesus son, who are you to question what Mark spends his hard earned money on? (Although, I wouldn't have gone with Walther either, I prefer Sigarms for my pistol needs.) Why would you want to buy a cheap gun? Have you ever FIRED a cheap gun?
The only cheap pistol I've ever owned was a Kel-Tec P9 I carried as a backup. I only put 60 rounds through it because it hurt to fire. The slide cut the the webbing on my hand, the trigger slapped back like a mule, and I couldn't hit anything with it. I sold it and bought a Sig P232, which was just as small, but well made. Controllable, good sights, little overtravel, and almost no trigger slap.

The only cheap pistol I've ever owned was a Kel-Tec P9 I carried as a backup. I only put 60 rounds through it because the f***er hurt to fire. The slide cut the hell out of the webbing on my hand, the trigger slapped back like a mule, and I couldn't hit shit with it. I sold it and bought a Sig P232, which was just as small, but well made. Controllable, good sights, little overtravel, and almost no trigger slap.
I own a couple of Kel-Tecs. I've never had a problem with either when on the range. Remember the weapon is considered a "back-up" or a last resort, CQC tool. I've hit a 55 gallon drum at 50 yards with them, but the design is better for contact use.
It may be just my observation, but if you were cutting the webbing out of your hand and the you were getting a mule for a kick, the gun may have been to big for you.:p

In my experience behind the counter of a couple or three gun shops, I've heard a little about the Kel-Tec, and the consensus is that while it's adequate in the smaller calibers, it was never intended as a 'primary' and anything approaching .45acp is just too much round for the piece.
If one is going to stake one's life on a piece of machinery, it only makes sense to get the 'best' one can afford, and take care of it literally as if your life depended on it. If it hurts you more than the 'gremlin' at the end with the hole (provided you can actually hit him with it), it's a bad choice.

There are dumb *sses every where. I've even worked with several Barney Fife types that I wouldn't allow them to load there weapons until the enemy fired 1st. :)

As a back up weapon, the Kel-Tec is a reliable, affordable piece. I have purchased 2 and have even given one to my father as a concealable, travel piece. I wouldn't have done that unless I believed in the system.

Since there was already a thread started about new pistols, I figured I would show off my new purchase. One FNP-45.
