I'm sure he would much rather have recieved the Bronze Stars than to have won them, but who am I to say. My 1SG also was awarded a Bronze Star while in Vietnam.

They couldn't have been reserves.
DFL this should explain why you haven't seen any reservist instructors.

Let me give little background. One is not truly "retired" from the service until one has completed 30 years of service. When one "retires" at 20 years, one becomes a member of the reserves for the next ten years and is subject to recall. Not something the recruiters tell you, but when you do your retirement briefings, you find out all sorts of interesting facts.
Another recent change is that some reservists are being permitted to become JROTC instructors. I don't have all the details available to me, but I recall reading them at the AFOATS page.

I beg to differ Cadet Master Chief,
BillyD already covered it, but one of my former SNSIs retired as a commander in the USNR. If I remember correctly, and we had this conversation almost five years ago, he transferred to the Naval Reserve after meeting the acquired twenty years of active service. I'd go back and ask him to double check, but he passed away a year ago.
Just for piles and giggles.
SNSI (Fall of '04-Spring of '07): CDR, USN/USNR Aviation, 23 years of naval service, 6 years as a NJROTC instructor.
NSI (Fall of '04-Spring of '06): MGySgt, USMC Infantry, 30 years of Marine Corps service, Vietnam Veteran, 19 years as a NJROTC instructor.
SNSI (Fall of '07-Present): CDR, USN Surface Warfare, 20+ years in the Navy, another 10 as a NROTC commandant, first year as a NJROTC instructor.
NSI (Fall of '06-Present): 1stSgt, USMC Recruit Depot Paris Island Company first sergeant (former Senior Drill Instructor & Drill Instructor), 21 years in as an active Marine, going on three years in NJROTC.
*Present meaning they are still instructors at my old unit*

These great Soldiers gave me the guidance to get me through high school, quit being so lazy, and do something with my life. Without them, I'd probably still be at home working at Domino's (nothing wrong with the place, but you get what I mean).
SAI (2001-2005): COL (R), USA Infantry, Special Forces qualified, 33 years total military service and at that point 10 years with JROTC, holds a doctorate in education
AI (2001): SFC (R), USA Infantry & Vietnam Veteran, retired that year after 20 years military service and 20 years with JROTC
AI (2001-2003): SGM (R), USA Infantry & Vietnam Veteran, retired with just over 20 years military service and 22 years with JROTC
AI (2003-2005): 1SG (R), USA Signal Corps & Persian Gulf Veteran, just completed his 20 years of service and those were his first years in JROTC
