Army ROTC and my chances

Hello everyone, this my first post so some grace would be appreciated.

I am applying for an 4 year ROTC scholarship in Minnesota.

1st some info about myself.

I have a 3.0 GPA in high school and will be graduating in roughly 4.5 months. I have been in Civil Air Patrol for about 6 years and have achieved the Cadet CAP grade of 2d. Lt. I have also received various CAP awards such as the Air Force Sergeants Association award and the Commander Commendation Award for NCO of the year in Minnesota Wing. Im taking my PT test in about a week and a half and if im not mistaken the test will include a 1 min mile run, curl up and push up test. Which I have been training for so I expect it to go well. The only thing that I am in question about is my ACT score (which is 19), I have never been a good standardized test taker and have to study very hard for them. However, I do have a 3.0 in High school and I have taken challenging courses like Physics, Philosophy etc. So I believe that's a testament enough to my academic readiness.

So my question... I was wondering if my low/min. ACT score is going to kill my chances of getting an Army ROTC scholarship?

Then no one can tell you what your possibilties are.

According to the Army ROTC site you meet the minimum ACT score...so that is about all we can say.

Maybe it's just me, but I would hope your GPA would be a bit higher as well.

More important than the GPA is the where you rank in your class. Since difficulty varies by school; the will take rank and school quality into major consideration when looking at your GPA. Also, consider taking the ACT/SAT again; they will take your highest score from each section (example: you get 600, 500, and 650 the first time you take the SAT; you get 550, 600, and 700 a 2nd time; the scores they will use are 600, 600, and 700) A good thing to do would be to find an ROTC rep from college you're considering and talk to that person. They should have more information than any of us.

How does your ROTC application play out if your school doesn't assign class ranks? My bi-annual transcript that's mailed to me says, flat out, "This school does not assign class ranks."

I go to a private school with a total student body of 175 students and is known for its strenuous academic program. So class ranking would be a very competitive in my school so they as well do not assign a class rank. But i would recommend what my my guidance counselor did and that would be to send the schools no class rank policy along with your transcript.

With a 2.44 and a 22 on the ACT, I have gotten a Schlorship.

I just also happen have been in the Civil Air Patrol, being in charge of the Emergency Service team, and have been in the US Army JROTC program for four years.

That might have helped...
