Just a little reminder, never leave your wall locker unlocked and go to the shower, E-5's like to dump all your stuff out, Note I was in the shower when he did that, came back and got put in the front leaning for every item in my locker,

Or go to the shower without shower shoes and let a Drill catch you. Report to them in proper footgear every hour, and did I mention the need to be in the uniform that goes with the footgear?

I remember during AIT, a guy walked into the shower room with no shoes on, next thing we know, 20 guys in front leaning in shower, fun stuff,

My friend(during Army Basic) got up in the middle of the night to take a shower and his Drill Sergeant caught him and made him do push-ups, he said he was so scared that he would get Athletes foot, or something else(A STD or somehting) on his genitalia.

Listen to your NCO's. The worst thing a fresh 2LT (as in fresh from commissioning source with no prior military experience (and high school cadet programs don't count)) could do is walk in thinking he knows everything and getting everyone beyond angry with him.

It's just something my AI says when a newly Commisoned 2ndLT come's to talk to us. He say's listen to his experience as a Cadet but not as a Soldier he's got no clue what he's talking about until the bullet's starting flying. Not trying to imply anything just saying what my last post meant, he says a officer that doesn't listen to his NCO's isn't a officer it's a man with Metal on his shoulders he says a officer is someone who will do anything and will die for the mean who serve under him.

Your prior post and the way it was worded infers membership into a group to which you are not yet a member. As a DEP, you've signed a contract that states "I will report to you on this date to begin my commitment", nothing more. As such, for you to say "that's what we call a "Boot Louie"" is out of line as it is a term of disrespect directed towards a commissioned officer of the Armed Services. Until you've got the time under your belt, served under officers of multiple types, and all the other accolades and sacrifices that come with service, you have no right to direct the referenced term at anyone.

Yes Specialist, I did not mean for it to be taken in the wrong way, I meant it to be playful. I am sorry.

For those in Navy DEP: Don't leave your A&B drawer unlocked unless you're within an arm's length of it. Don't call your RDC sir/ma'am, or by their rate. Its Petty Officer/Chief, etc. Know your CoC too.
I've got too many stories from RTC. Trust me. O yeah, don't get ASMOed either.

When you JROTC kids actually end up at Basic Training, I would probably keep tight lipped about the fact that you were in the program in front of your instructors. All the guys we had who mentioned being in JROTC got stuck with crap jobs and caught a lot more flak from the instructors.
As for the person who asked for advice for future officers, serve some time as an enlisted member first.

My RDCs guessed that I was in the NSCC and JROTC and yet they treated me no different. You're right though, once you get in the military JROTC and all those other programs don't mean a thing. You might have been top dog in JROTC, but you go back to the bottom. Trust me...

Our guys that were in JROTC took a lot of crap whenever they messed up, especially marching. The instructors would always comment on how they spent 4 years in JROTC and still couldn't march, or fold their clothes, or anything they could think of.

So you can know how to treat you SNCO's,NCO's and enlisted.I am going to tell you this being a officer is not just something you say "I'm doing this so people salute and respect me" being a officer means leading those men under you. If you make a mistake you could get somebody killed so think before you say you want to be a officer, think of the responsibilty. If you choose to go the NCO route think oyu hav to train your junior NCO's and enlisted. What ever you do people will be counting on you. Pray God will tell you what to do.
I am not trying to be mean just drilling this into your head. Go to Recruit training(BMT,BT or whatever branch you join) and earn the title first before you decide anything else. Step by step grasshopper.

Serving time as an enlisted member first will help you understand where your troops are coming from. You will have spent time in the trenches and in my mind be able to better understand the problems they face.

I'm so glad we have to go through the whole Enlisted Rank structure in C.A.P. before we can be officers, with some kids ego's, they would be jerks about everything..

In the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, cadets don't even have the opportunity to be an officer until they're adults. There are good and bad things about that (depending on who you are and how much rank you want) but it worked out for me.
