Ok so if you read my other thread you'd know that I plan to join the Marine Corps. My birthday is coming up in about two weeks now and I plan to go to the substation and enter the DEP sometime relatively close to then (obviously after my birthday) and I was just wondering if anyone had any sort of "last minute" advice. As with the other thread all comments, positive or "constructive criticism" are welcome if not appreciated.

They even have an "ASVAB For Dummies" now, so what do you expect.

I'm going to be turning 17 and I'm a Junior. As far as the ASVAB is concerned I've already taken it and I got a 97 so from what I hear I think I'm set for that. In regards to the IST I've been doing all that stuff, not as much as I probably need to though...

You seem to be on top of it, so you probably already have an MOS picked out. With your ASVAB score, you can do any job you like. I got a 97 myself, and I'm shooting for an 0211 slot (counterintel/humint). You can get a guaranteed contract. I recommend that you ask your recruiter about this, and push hard for it. Ask about bonuses too. Also, get promoted before shipping out. If you have college credits (from AP courses), two referrals (just ask guys at the recruiting station if you don't have them), or I think by being in JNROTC you can get promoted before you leave for boot. Really press for the guaranteed contract. Don't get rushed into anything, and don't sign things without reading it first.

I'd like to echo ingbda01's comments, and also add that it's best to start running every other day. If all you can run is one and a half miles, push it up gradually (1.5, 1.7, 2.0 etc.) until you can do 4 miles without (major) problems. It'll help you on your IST, at boot camp, MCT, A School, and in the fleet. Obviously if you want to go past 4, that's your perogative... I've run for state office on an anti-running platform, so 4 miles in preparation for a PFT is a good foundation for me.
